Why don’t I have access to the billing portal where I can download my invoices?

If you don’t see a button to the billing portal where you can download your invoices, on the billing page of your dashboard, your account is on our legacy billing integration with Paddle, our payment provider and merchant of record. This article explains what that means and what to expect.

What’s different?

Paddle, the company that processes our payments, has two versions of their billing system: a legacy version and a current version. Your account was set up on the legacy version.

  • Security and reliability are identical between the two versions.
  • All the same subscription plans are available to you, with no difference in features, image delivery, or pricing.
  • The only difference is that the legacy version doesn’t include a self-service billing portal, so you can’t currently review your payment history or download invoices yourself.

If you need an invoice, the email address you entered during the initial subscription checkout gets sent a receipt/invoice email after each successful payment. You can also contact us and we’ll send over a copy of the invoice you need.

Are we fixing this?

Yes. Paddle is building a migration tool that will move legacy accounts like yours to the current version, which includes the billing portal. This tool isn’t available yet.

We recommend waiting for this migration rather than doing anything yourself.

When it happens:

  • It will require no action from you.
  • Your account, features, image delivery, and pricing will be completely unaffected.
  • The only visible change will be that the billing portal button becomes available on the billing page in your dashboard.

Why you shouldn’t cancel and resubscribe to “fix” this yourself

It’s technically possible to move to the current version early by cancelling all of your active subscriptions (image, video, and image editor, all three, not just one) and resubscribing once the effective cancellation dates have passed. We strongly advise against this, because:

  • Between cancellation and resubscribing, your account reverts to the free plan and you lose access to all the features you’re currently paying for.
  • On the free plan, a watermark is automatically added to images in your drive. This is reverted as soon as you resubscribe, but there’s a gap where it’s active.

Cancelling, waiting out the cancellation period and resubscribing is not necessary to get the billing portal, it will arrive automatically once Paddle’s migration tool is ready, with none of the downsides.
