Jump straight to the file you need in large folders

If you have a folder with thousands of files, scrolling to the one you need can take a while. This update adds a few ways to move around large folders more quickly, plus some fixes to how the scrollbar and search bar behave.

Scrollbar first letter bubble

When sorting alphabetically, picking up and dragging the scrollbar, you will now see a small bubble showing the first letter of the filename at that location. This allows you to quickly go to filenames that start with a certain letter eg. from the top to “B”, or then to “C”.

When sorting on upload date, the bubble shows the upload month and year, and when sorting on filesize the bubble will show groups of ranges of filesizes to jump to.

Jump to box

When sorting alphabetically, a jump to filename bar is now shown. This means you can quickly jump to a filename eg. if you enter “c” it will jump to the first filename that starts with a “c”. You can also type more letters eg. “can”, if the first filename is “candle” you’ll then jump to that.

This jump works even if the filename is not visible on the screen yet, even if it is preceded by thousands of other images, and it’ll work instantly.

Item counter

The subsection headers that show the “Select all” checkbox for images, videos and folders now also show the total number of items.

Fixes

The scrollbar now has a height relative to total number of items in the folder, not longer based on the subset loaded in memory. Also the top part of the scrollbar was previously clipped by the header area, now it is always fully shown.

The search bar has been updated to be more stable visually eg. not flash or lose focus suddenly.

On certain smaller width desktop screens, the left menu would automatically be hidden due to lack of screen space, but with no way to unhide it temporarily to access it. This has been fixed.

These changes are live now. If you work with big folders regularly and have ideas for making navigation easier, let me know or add it to the roadmap.
