This is one of the biggest updates of the Img.vision dashboard to date. The main focus was to implement the new modern Paddle payment gateway integration.

Here’s a summary of the most important changes:

  • New customers will as of now use a newer Paddle payment gateway integration granting them access to the Paddle invoice portal.
  • Existing customers remain on the old payment integration. Paddle is developing a tool to migrate existing customers over, without impacting the subscription. We are monitoring these developments and will communicate at a later date when we can start the migration.
  • A downgrade (lower image limit or yearly to monthly) is now scheduled to take effect at the end of the current billing period. This is in line with industry standards.
  • An account that is more than 7 days past due on its last payment has its dashboard go into lockdown mode.
  • Folder, image, and video uploading and renaming now follows proper strict filename rules and has automatic sanitation to prevent errors further down the line. Characters that are not allowed are automatically converted into an underscore on upload. Spaces are not allowed in image filenames. You are always informed about any filename issues by the dashboard.
  • Google Drive Quick File Picker integration is approved by the Google team and available now on all Pro and Pro Max plans. The warning message is now gone.
  • Free users now have their offline images (put offline automatically to stay within their 100 online image limit) automatically pruned. Offline images of ex-customers are also pruned, but are given a grace period of several weeks starting from their effective cancellation date.

Below you can find a full change log with detailed description of every change:

New Paddle integration

New customers of Img.vision will now use a newer Paddle (payment gateway) integration. The benefit for customers is that it grants them access to a Paddle invoice portal, where they can update and download invoices. So there no need to request a copy via support or hunt down the email in your inbox anymore.

Downgrading now goes into effect at the end of your current billing cycle. This behavior is in line with how the industry typically handles downgrades.

Note that yearly to monthly plan changes are always considered a downgrade, and thus scheduled to take effect at the end of your current billing period.

Also, for new customers after this release, a downgrade cannot be scheduled if you are within 2 hours of a planned renewal. For existing customers, it is not possible the day of the renewal or the day before, this is a technical limitation and is in place to prevent issues.

A scheduled downgrade can be cancelled with one click on the Billing page so it does not go into effect.

Upgrading your plan still takes effect immediately. The unused remaining period on the old plan grants you pro-rata credits that go towards paying for the plan change.

You can cancel at any time to prevent being charged again. The cancellation will go into effect at the end of your current billing period, no change as to before. However, you can now choose to resume your plan before the cancellation goes into effect.

The Billing page in your dashboard will as of now start retaining your subscription plan history.

Pricing table marketing site and inside the dashboard

The marketing site pricing table and the pricing table on the Billing page in your dashboard have been updated:

  • Your location is detected and the correct currency is loaded automatically.
  • If your country’s currency is not one of the supported ones, you see and are billed in US Dollar.
  • For new customers, all prices shown are based on a US Dollar price that Paddle converts at the current rate, the same conversion happens again at checkout.
  • The pricing tables detect whether your country typically shows tax inclusive or exclusive of the price, and follows the rule accordingly to show the correct total price.

Upgrades

When upgrading, the previous version of the dashboard always showed a success notification, even if it failed to complete, for example because charging the payment method failed. Now, the upgrade will fail with a proper error notification.

Past due lock

After being 1 week past due on your subscription payment, the dashboard goes into lockdown mode: you cannot access the dashboard anymore except the Billing page. Your images and videos are unaffected and stay online. Updating your payment method makes Paddle retry the failed payment, and if successful, instantly unlocks your dashboard.

We try to collect your payment multiple times automatically, over several weeks, while emailing you about each failed attempt. Eventually we cancel your subscription and drop you into the free plan. Note that if your drive contains videos, or more images than allowed on the free plan, they will be automatically purged to conserve space on our servers.

Free users

The settings page of free users incorrectly showed that they had 10x archived images (1000). The pie chart now shows the correct allowance, which is 0.

The 10MB max image filesize and max 100 megapixel limitation of free accounts has in place for over one and a half years, but now it is also being enforced. Uploads will not complete and an notification will be shown.

Paid users, regardless of the plan, can upload images up to 90MB and 400 megapixels, that is unchanged compared to before. Also video file uploads are unchanged, they are capped at 30GB per video.

Free users can have a max of 100 online images in their drive, watermarked with an Img.vision ad. Continuing to upload more images has always been possible, but the oldest online images are taken offline automatically to make room. Those offline images used to remain in your drive indefinitely, but could not be retrieved or put online anymore. This meant the space some free drives took kept growing. With this release, offline images of free users will be automatically purged to conserve space on our servers.

Ex-image-customers who effectively have a free account again, have always had their images above the free limit taken offline the moment they became a free user again. Now, after a grace period, these offline images will also be automatically purged to conserve server space. Videos follow the same rule, except the free plan does not allow any videos at all.

Not allowed characters handled properly

Folders, images and video names are now correctly sanitized on upload or rename. In the past you could for example rename an image and include a space, which would complete successfully, but actually broke and froze your image from further actions.

  • Any non-allowed characters during upload are automatically converted to an underscore. A notification will be shown to inform you if this happens.
  • The rename dialog now displays the rules to adhere to and the error message is more informative.
  • Rules have been introduced to prevent using image filenames that would make the ZIP backups fail to unzip eg. on Windows certain filenames such as CON.jpg are reserved for the system and thus should not be included in the ZIP.
  • The folder rename dialog accepts spaces again. That was a bug. Image names cannot contain a space though.

Google Drive import using Quick file picker now fully available to Pro and Pro Max plans

Our integration with Google Drive was approved by the Google team, so the Quick file picker now no longer shows an error.

Note: The Google Drive import integration that allows importing entire folders, is still in a mandatory test phase by Google, and requires you to contact us first to gain access.

Email change flow

Changing your email address now requires entering your password to request it, and clicking a link in a confirmation email sent to the new address.

An email change of your account will now also change your email address at Paddle, the email address used to receive your invoices and access the new Paddle invoice portal. This is for new customers after this release only, for existing customers, you still need to contact us or Paddle (we are working with Paddle to automate this).

Manager accounts

Inviting manager accounts, if your plan allows it, but you’re in your cancellation period, now works. Previously it wasn’t possible anymore from the moment you requested the cancellation.

UI

The account status box in the left menu used to display the wrong status in case your subscription was past due combined with a previously canceled subscription. When having multiple cancelled subscriptions the wrong status could also have been displayed. The actual Billing page was not affected.

The error and confirmation messages have been restyled to be more pretty.

The settings page, change email section now displays your current email address.

Mobile UI

The mobile UI could get hard to scan if search results were located in a folder with many parent folders. That’s been improved.

Security hardening

We’ve hardened the security of the dashboard in multiple places. This was one of our biggest security updates ever.
