Amazon Drive is soon to be no more. The cloud service started eleven years ago and is planned to say its goodbyes on December 31st 2023. The Amazon Drive apps for Android and iOS will be shut down sooner, on October 31st 2022. This means customers will have to look out for an alternative to the service that, unfortunately, never lived up to its expectations.

Amazon Photos & Videos Continue
In an email to their customers, Amazon wrote “We will continue to provide customers the ability to safely back up, share, and organize photos and videos with Amazon Photos, but for all files that aren’t images or videos, you’ll have to download them.” Furthermore, Amazon’s Drive FAQ page advises Cloud users to download the Amazon Photos desktop app for Windows or macOS as the mobile version will be disappearing in October.
Amazon’s New Photo Focus
According to Amazon this decision will allow them to focus more fully on Amazon Photos “to provide customers a dedicated solutions for photos and video storage.” If this means Amazon is planning on challenging Google Photos and Apple’s iCloud Photo Library, time will have to tell.
