We are the 1st of June and we start of the month with a pack updates:
๐ฝ๏ธ Video plans offer 13x more streaming minutes (up to 8TB streaming data)
Before our video plans offered between 500 minutes of streaming to 16,000 minutes.
Now the video plans offer between 2667 minutes up to 213,000 minutes.
In terms of gigabytes of traffic, that’s ranging from 100GB to 8TB.
๐๏ธ Video file uploads up to 30GB
We used to have a limit of 90MB per video file when uploading videos.
This limit has been raised 133-fold.
We now allow uploads per video file up to 30GB.
We had to completely redesign the architecture behind the hood to allow this. Video uploads are now divided in small chunks by your browser and sent in small parts to our servers. This unlocks uploading big files over 90MB. The smaller parts make the whole uploading a lot more stable.
Just to be complete, I’ll mention that we don’t have, and never had, a video length limit on any of our video plans.
โ๏ธ Video processing now faster
We got rid of unnecessary intermediate steps during video file processing that should speed up processing a lot, especially noticeable with bigger video files.
๐ New video plan: 10 videos
We added a plan between the 5 videos plan and the 25 videos plan for those of you that don’t need up to 25 videos.
There are now 4 smaller plans, they range from 5, 10, 25 to 50 videos. Unlke the image plans, all features are available on each plan.
๐ฅ๏ธ Faster Img dashboard for our big customers
Scrolling through your images in the Img dashboard should be a lot faster and a smoother experience.
Before this update, the thumbnails in your Img dashboard were actually the original images, just resized inside your browser. This had as downside that if you had a lot of images, you were scrolling through your images, and your images are high res photos, the performance of the Img dashboard and your browser could suffer, leading to erratic scrolling or lagginess.
We setup a completely new CDN edge infrastructure that on-the-fly resizes your original image into the perfect dimensions to show as thumbnail in the Img dashboard. So now you don’t load files that are too big and your memory usage of your device is kept low. The effect is pretty amazing, a very smooth scrolling experience ๐

After the update:
๐ Improved reliability of the link code generator
We have a limitation that you cannot select more than 1000 items. This sort of limitation is present in many web apps since browsers cannot deal with huge amounts of data being active and being interacted with at the same time.
If you upload 1000 items or less, the link generator and the item selection is going to be fine and work correctly.
However, if you, before this update, upload more images than can be selected (so end result would be over 1000 selected images), we can’t predict which images will be the first 1000 in the main window and thus keep the selection accurrate: when uploading many images in parallel, we can’t accuratly predict which images will be uploaded first due to things like changing network speeds.
So instead of building a huge complex algorithm, I decided that we disable auto-selection after upload if selected items after upload will be more than 1000 items. It’s better to not provide anything than provide unreliable data. You can just select them yourself after all the uploads finish.
We’re excited about these significant updates to enhance Img.vision’s Video streaming service and Image hosting service! Let us know what you think.
